I read this quote this week, and I can’t stop thinking about it:
“The Internet doesn’t need more content. It needs more people who lived something first and wrote about it second.”
The same could be said about “Influencer Coaches.”
More experience, please.
As a Gen X’er, I struggled to find good coaching. Two kinds of coaches are pervasively creating noise:
1. The Influencer Coach. All about being an Internet star. Their pitch? If you want to change your life or win in business, you need a strong personal brand, too. (Dumb. Really.)
2. The Scale Coach. All about making more of you… more widgets, more output, more for the world. And it plays hand in hand with the Influencer Coach, because to scale, you have to be a social media star.
These coaches attract crowds. They’ve got the flash. The glitz. Millions of followers, millions of likes.
But here’s the thing.
When you’ve had a seasoned career of 20+ years, these are very unserious business people.
They lack the substance to coach you… on your substance.
Here’s what I don’t want to happen.
I don’t want the noise to convince you that this is what coaching is. Or worse, that this is what you’d have to become to help other people.
Because the world needs experienced advisors. Seasoned consultants. Coaches who actually lived something first and wrote about it second.
It needs you.
The wisdom you earned across two decades doesn’t expire because someone with a ring light is louder than you on LinkedIn.
Don’t let the lack of substance out there make you question your own.
